Terms of Service
These terms apply when you use Friendly Wagers ("the app," "we," "us"). By creating an account or using the app, you agree to them. If you don't agree, please don't use the app — you can stop at any time by deleting your account.
1. What Friendly Wagers is — and what it isn't
Friendly Wagers is a record-keeping tool for personal golf bets between friends. The app helps you set up game formats, track scores, compute who owes whom at the end of a round, and keep a running tally of your head-to-head balances over time.
The app does not handle money. No payments flow through Friendly Wagers. When the app says "Player A owes Player B $20," that's a record of an informal personal debt between friends — not a financial transaction processed by us. You and your playing partners are responsible for settling those debts among yourselves, off-platform, however you normally would (Venmo, cash, you owe me a round, whatever).
The app is not a gambling service, a sportsbook, a casino, a fantasy sports operator, or a money-transmitter. We are not licensed as any of those things, and the app is not intended to facilitate wagering with strangers, real-money play between users who don't know each other personally, or any form of organized gambling. Use it for your Saturday foursome. Don't use it for anything else.
2. Eligibility
- You must be at least 17 years old to use the app.
- You must use the app for tracking personal bets among people you actually know and personally play golf with.
- You must follow the laws of your jurisdiction. Some jurisdictions restrict even informal betting; if yours does, don't use the app to track wagers there.
3. Your account
You're responsible for keeping your account credentials secure. If you sign in with Apple, Apple handles the credentials and you're subject to Apple's security recommendations. If you sign in with email and password, choose a strong unique password and don't share it.
You may not share your account with another person. Each person who plays a round needs their own account so settlement records remain accurate.
You may delete your account at any time from Profile → Settings → Delete Account. See our Privacy Policy for what happens to your data when you do.
4. Subscriptions and in-app purchases
Friendly Wagers offers an optional premium subscription with the following terms:
4.1 Auto-renewal
Subscriptions auto-renew at the end of each billing period (monthly or annual, depending on the plan you choose) at the then-current price. Your Apple ID is charged within 24 hours before the period ends. You can manage and cancel your subscription at any time in iOS Settings → [Your Name] → Subscriptions.
4.2 Free trial
If your plan includes a free trial, the trial automatically converts to a paid subscription at the end of the trial period unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the trial ends.
4.3 Refunds
All purchases are processed by Apple. Refund requests are handled by Apple per their terms. We don't process refunds ourselves and we don't have access to your billing information. You can request a refund at reportaproblem.apple.com.
4.4 What premium includes
Premium features are listed in the app and on the marketing site. We may change the feature set over time. If we remove a substantial feature that was a primary reason you subscribed, we'll notify you before the next renewal so you can choose to continue or cancel.
4.5 Free tier
The free tier of Friendly Wagers includes the Skins and Stroke Play game formats, full settlement, the Vault, and unlimited rounds. The scoring path is never gated or interrupted by upsells. Premium unlocks the remaining game formats, tournament hosting, round-summary PDFs, and deeper analytics — additions on top of the core experience, not a gate in front of it.
5. Founding Member status
Accounts created through December 31, 2027 receive permanent Founding Member status, independent of subscription tier. This is recognition for early support, not a financial benefit. We may make additional benefits available to Founding Members in the future at our discretion, but we don't currently promise any.
6. Acceptable use
When you use Friendly Wagers, you agree not to:
- Use the app to organize, advertise, or facilitate gambling with strangers, in unlicensed jurisdictions, or in violation of any law
- Use the app for fraudulent purposes, including fabricating scores or settlement records to extract money from another person
- Harass, threaten, or harm another user through the app's social features
- Use the app on behalf of someone else, or impersonate another person
- Reverse engineer, decompile, or attempt to extract source code (except to the extent these restrictions are prohibited by applicable law)
- Use automated tools to access the app or its API
- Attempt to circumvent any feature gating, security measure, or subscription enforcement
- Upload malicious code, attempt to disrupt the service, or interfere with another user's use of the app
We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these rules. Where the violation involves real harm to another user (fraud, harassment), we'll cooperate with law enforcement.
7. Disputes between players
If you and another player disagree about a score, a settlement amount, or anything else recorded in the app, that's a dispute between the two of you. We don't mediate. We don't enforce settlements. We don't move money. The app's records are a tool to help you sort it out among yourselves — they're not a legal judgment.
8. Your content
You retain ownership of anything you create in the app — your rounds, your scores, your profile information, your photos. By using the app, you grant us a limited license to host, store, and display that content to make the app function (e.g., to show your scores to the other players in your round, sync your data across your devices).
We don't claim ownership of your data. We don't sell it. We don't use it to train AI models. We don't share it with anyone except as described in the Privacy Policy.
9. Our content
The Friendly Wagers name, logo, app interface, design, illustrations, and source code are our intellectual property. You're licensed to use the app for personal, non-commercial purposes — you're not licensed to copy, redistribute, or build a competing product on top of our work.
10. Termination
You can stop using the app and delete your account at any time. We can suspend or terminate accounts that violate these terms, with notice where reasonable. If we discontinue the service entirely, we'll provide at least 60 days' notice and a way to export your data.
11. Disclaimers
The app is provided "as is" and "as available." We do our best to keep it accurate and reliable, but we don't warrant that it will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that all settlement calculations will be free of bugs. We strongly recommend you and your playing partners verify settlement amounts before exchanging money.
To the maximum extent permitted by law, we disclaim all warranties, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement.
12. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, our total liability for any claim arising out of or relating to your use of the app is limited to the greater of (a) the amount you paid us in subscription fees in the 12 months preceding the claim, or (b) $100 USD. We are not liable for indirect, incidental, consequential, or punitive damages, including lost profits, lost data, or lost golf bets, even if we've been advised of the possibility of those damages.
13. Indemnification
You agree to indemnify and hold us harmless from any claims, losses, or expenses arising out of your misuse of the app, your violation of these terms, your violation of any law, or your violation of another person's rights.
14. Apple-specific terms
The following apply to your use of the iOS app downloaded from the Apple App Store, in addition to the rest of these terms:
- These terms are between you and Friendly Wagers, not between you and Apple. Apple is not responsible for the app or its content.
- Your use of the app must comply with the Apple Media Services Terms and the App Store Terms of Use.
- Apple has no obligation to provide maintenance and support for the app.
- If the app fails to conform to any applicable warranty, you may notify Apple, and Apple will refund the purchase price of the app to you. Apple has no other warranty obligation with respect to the app.
- Apple is not responsible for addressing any claims you have with respect to the app, including product liability claims, claims that the app fails to conform to legal requirements, or claims arising under consumer protection or similar legislation.
- If any third party claims that the app infringes their intellectual property, Apple is not responsible for investigating, defending, settling, or discharging that claim.
- You represent that you are not located in a country subject to a U.S. Government embargo, and that you are not on any U.S. Government list of prohibited or restricted parties.
- Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these terms and may enforce them against you.
15. Governing law and disputes
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Florida, United States, without regard to its conflict-of-laws principles. Any dispute that can't be resolved informally will be resolved by binding arbitration in the State of Florida under the rules of the American Arbitration Association, except that either party may bring a claim in small claims court if the claim qualifies.
You waive the right to participate in a class action against us. If this class action waiver is unenforceable in your jurisdiction, the rest of this section will still apply.
16. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms from time to time. If a change is material (affects your rights, obligations, or the cost of the service), we'll notify you in the app and update the "Last updated" date. Your continued use of the app after a change takes effect means you accept the updated terms.
